“Stories Behind Songs” CD Release Event to Raise Funds for

Local Non-Profit Book ‘em

Nashville, TN (September 20, 2011) – Nashville-based performing songwriter Shantell Ogden will release a new country and folk album, Stories Behind Songs, on October 7, 2011. A CD release celebration will be held at the Listening Room in Nashville on October 7, from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.; fifty percent of CD sales from the event will be donated to Book ‘em, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to children’s literacy. Every CD sold that night will allow Book ‘em to donate a book to a local child.

“I’m so excited to be releasing Stories Behind Songs and helping children receive their own stories through Book ‘em,” said Shantell. “I credit my songwriting roots to growing up with a love of books and music, and because every song has a story, it was a natural fit to support Book ‘em through CD sales.”

Ogden asked fans to participate in the album by sending her their stories to inspire a song. As a result of the invitation, “Love Always Finds a Way” was written by Shantell based on the real-life love story of Louise and Laura Lee Sillay of Alpharetta, Georgia, a couple who have been married for more than 65 years.

Ogden’s new album emphasizes her evolution as a songwriter and co-writer in the country market, while honoring her singer/songwriter roots.

“Whether I’m writing country, folk or alternative music, I am a big believer in keeping the characters real and the emotions honest,” said Shantell. “To me, a great song reveals something compelling or funny about who we are, and I love how that connects us.”

Ogden’s willingness to reveal her genuine experience is evident in tracks such as “I Love Different Now.” “Maybe love’s a little mystery / we never figure out / sometimes it’s full of magic / sometimes it’s full of doubt / I still believe in love, but I love different now.”

“I Wasn’t Done Lovin’ You Yet,” co-written with Thom Schuyler (Kenny Rogers, Michael Martin Murphy), is a haunting two-step about the memories that remain when a relationship ends. “Here I am facing the memories again / back in the middle of what might have been / it’s hard to remember, it’s hard to forget / I wasn’t done lovin’ you yet.”

The album features the work of some of Nashville’s finest session musicians: Kevin Post (Blake Shelton, Terri Clark), Tigar Bell (Merle Haggard, Travis Tritt), Dave Smith (Lee Greenwood, Mel McDaniel) and Monty Parkey (Alan Jackson, Daryl Worley). It was produced by Dave Smith and recorded and mixed at his studio, Nashville Song Lab in Nashville; the album was mastered at Jimmy Dulin Productions.

The album and digital downloads can be purchased on www.shantellogden.com beginning October 7.

About Shantell Ogden
Shantell Ogden is a co-writer of “Lost,” which has achieved airplay on more than 60 contemporary country stations around the U.S. For more than 14 years she has faced blank pages and crafted sweet and savory songs. Ogden has toured nationally, releasing independent albums of her own, including Water Through Stone (2008) and Stories Behind Songs (to be released on October 7, 2011). She is based in Nashville, Tennessee.

About Book’em

Book’em is a local, nonprofit, children’s literacy organization focusing on two core areas: providing volunteer readers to local preschools and elementary schools, and collecting and distributing new books to children and teens in lower-income families who might not otherwise have books of their own. The organization’s mission is to empower Nashville’s children by fostering a love of books and reading. Programs include Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Ready for Reading, the Dorothy Goldstein Memorial Library Without Walls and Biblioteca sin paredes.

Nashville Music Row Group judges national songwriter competition to raise money and awareness for Narcolepsy

Nashville, TN (September 6, 2011)— National non-profit Wake Up Narcolepsy, Jazz Pharmaceuticals and St. Thomas Health partners with Music City’s most acclaimed songwriters to present “Wake Up Nashville”, a fundraiser and songwriters showcase which will take place September 29th at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. Doors open at 7pm and tickets may be purchased at WakeUpNarcolepsy.org for $75.

The event is locally supported by Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tennessee. “We are proud to be part of such a special event. Raising regional awareness about narcolepsy and the importance of sleep health is important to our wellness mission,” states Kelly Carden, MD, the event’s medical advisor. The hospital system network wanted to play a role in bringing together an important and underserved cause with local music industry expertise. “Everybody wins by working together—we can help those with Narcolepsy while leveraging what Nashville does best—music,” adds Carden.

Narcolepsy is a lifelong, disabling sleep disorder, affecting approximately one in every 2,000 people in North America which equals approximately 155,000 people in the U.S. Some of the history’s most influential names like Winston Churchill, Harriet Tubman and comedian Jimmy Kimmel have the neurological disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness. Upcoming entertainment includes movies in the works by Miley Cyrus (“Wake”) and Adam Sandler (“Narco”) and MTV’s “TrueLife—I Have Narcolepsy” that all involve people with the disorder. Before the national awareness spikes, Nashville is leading the way with its local event.

“Wake Up Nashville” is a creative collaboration spearheaded by music industry legend and General Manager of Savannah Music Group, Bob Saporiti. The former General Manager of Warner Bros. Records has challenged his industry peers to participate in the fundraising event. Songwriters Dave Gibson (Gibson Miller Band) and Bobby Wood (Elvis and Garth Brooks) are a couple of well-known artists who plan to take the stage as performers for the evening.

Local songwriters are encouraged to submit their original song for a $25 tax-deductible donation by September 20. Each song will be reviewed by publishers at Savannah Music Group for its craftsmanship, lyrics, creativity and other factors. The winner will be invited to perform their original work among industry songwriters and musicians at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. According to Saporiti, “It’s not easy for songwriters to get a fair hearing by professional music publishers. This event gives everyone a chance to be heard and at the same time raise much needed awareness and funds for a very worthy cause.” The group has already received entries from across the U.S. and local students from Belmont and Vanderbilt plan to participate.

Wake Up Nashville will be distinctly different from traditional fundraisers because it offers an opportunity for both songwriters and people with narcolepsy to be heard. It will provide an informal atmosphere to allow personal connections with Music Row executives, renowned medical sleep disorder experts, and families representing those with Narcolepsy.

To enter the songwriting contest or purchase a ticket for the event, visit www.WakeUpNarcolepsy.org.

Wake Up Nashville is one of the first major social green events to be hosted in Nashville.
