Comcast proudly announces the 2009 Comcast “Jeff Fisher & Friends” Charity Softball Game is set for Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Greer Stadium. CAPSTAR Bank joins the event as the presenting sponsor. The event benefits the Nashville Children’s Alliance, Mercy Ministries, Soles4Souls, Catch-A-Dream and several other local charities. The event has raised over $375,000 to date.
“The game is an opportunity for us to give back to the community as well as offering the fans and their families a chance to see our players and coaches in a casual and fun environment”, says Jeff Fisher, whose record is 6-1-1 over Special Teams Coach Alan “Music City Miracle” Lowry. He adds “the players enjoy a night out competing with their teammates. The players look forward to this event and the locker room ribbing goes on all year long.”
Coach Lowry will look for his second straight victory over Fisher’s team this year. “We always have so much fun. Every year, I tell my team before the game to go out and play well enough that Jeff’s team has to cheat to win. Last year, they got so far behind, they just couldn’t cheat enough and they finally let us win,” Lowry said with a smile. “This year, I am going to hold secret practices and have my guys meet up at the batting cages.”
Past “Friends” have included: Kerry Collins, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Justin Gage, Vince Young, Chris Hope, Cortland Finnegan, David Thornton, Kevin Mawae, Bo Scaife, Steve McNair, Eddie George, Frank Wycheck, Craig Hentrich, Rob Bironas, Keith Bulluck and many more.
Bridgestone and Best One will again host a dazzling fireworks display to cap off the evening. Gates will open at 5:00 PM and parking is free. Early arrivals can enjoy the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Fun Zone and watch pre-game activities such as an exhibition game played by the Little League Softball Clubs and the “Hit it Out of the Park” contest between the NFL Players.
The Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Fun Zone, supported by Tum-E Yummies is located at the main gate of Greer Stadium. It is packed with brand new games including a trampoline bounce, a velcro wall, an inflatable jump slide and a speed pitch. The Fun Zone is primarily geared toward children ages 12 and under. However, the speed pitch is open to fans of all ages. The inflatable jump slide is free and the rest of the games charge a nominal fee. The Fun Zone remains open from the time gates open until the end of the 7th inning.
Admission is $10.00 for General Admission and $15.00 for Reserved Seats. Complimentary parking will be provided by the Tennessee Titans. Again this year, the Nashville-based charity, Soles4Souls™ Inc., the global organization dedicated to providing free footwear to people in need all over the world, will be conducting a shoe drive at the charity softball game. Soles4Souls is asking for your ‘gently worn’ shoes to make a tangible difference in someone’s life. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unworn shoes lying in their closets.
